Lumbar puncture

A common procedure to help diagnose MS.

A lumbar puncture (also known as spinal tap) is an important procedure to collect spinal fluid that can help diagnose MS. To do this, a needle is inserted into the lower back and the fluid is then tested. The procedure is completed under local anaesthetic.
